A Real Pain (2024)

★★★★½

Oh wow. Thank you Jesse Eisenberg for making this. I've never felt more kinship with a story and more seen as a Jew and Grandson of Holocaust survivors. The subject matter is handled really delicately; even though Kieran's character is maybe comic relief- he also serves as the moral mouthpiece and balances out the whole story and the weird emotional impassivity of these Holocaust tours.
It brought me back to my Poland tour and made me proud to be a Jew. To see those Polish streets and the camps and see it photographed so delicately and with great care.
I'm sure this movie will make non-Jews feel something too but this really did something to me. Thanks Jesse.
Really really great, tight script. The movie is exactly what it needs to be. Carefully directed, beautifully shot. Just a real gem of a movie. And always bonus points from me when the score is just classical music.
