Film review
Sentimental Value (2025)
★★★★½
Saw at the opening night of the Jerusalem Film Festival at Sultan's pool. Gal Gadot was there and the mayor of Jerusalem spoke about the importance of cinema. I was in heaven before the movie even began.
I've held off writing about this for so long because I'd been waiting for some deeper revelation to come. For an understanding of the movie to hit me. But I feel now as I did then; the movie is elusive and ambiguous and about multiple themes. Nostalgia, how our family shapes us, letting go of the past, letting go of inhibitions, sentimental value... etc.
I'll need a rewatch, but I already know this is the type of movie that changes with age and with more. lived life experience.
Incredibly well executed by Trier, but I'm not sure anything he makes can come close to the magic of Worst Person in the World.
