The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)
★★★★★
This movie moves so quickly. Packed audience at the Jerusalem cinematheque. I overheard conversations before:
"Is this movie supposed to be good?"
"Isn't Wes Anderson the artsy one?"
"No I've never seen a Wes Anderson movie before"
This Israeli audience was in for a treat. Laughed at all the jokes (forgot how endlessly funny this one is). The cinematography is impeccable (not just the Wes framing but lighting, composition, everything.) The score is great, the performances, the script.
I mean it's Wes Anderson. No one can do it like him and he does what he does perfectly. Cinema is indebted to this auteur.
I wish I could write more in praise of this movie but I just missed my train all the way back to Herzliyah and its already 11:15 PM and im lying on the floor of the jerusalem train station waiting for the next train in half an hour. So yeah, this movie rocks and I love it and thats all Ill say
