Y Tu Mamá También (2001)

Whoa.
The last 5 minutes of this change the whole feeling of the movie and make it even deeper and more poignant.
I FELT this movie. Not as in I related to it, but as in i felt it in my bones- felt that I was watching life unfold, watching old friends hanging out, watching an unassuming adventure amongst friends. I felt like I was there. You could chalk it up to the incredible chemistry between the friends (seriously, how did Cuaron get that out of them), the unimposing cinematography with its extended one takes on scenes of dialogue, or the just crazy enough that it makes an interesting movie but not too crazy that it cant be believable plot.
The movie felt most like life in that it isn't all beautiful or all revealed. It isn't all fun trips down to the beach or teenage thrills. Yes, theres the fun, and the parties and the screwing around. But, as the omnipotent narrator indicates, there's also the secrets that are withheld from one another, the ones someone else doesnt need to know. Theres the personal history that contributed to our identity. The thoughts we have when we look at a little village and think about someone who means the world to us or the knowledge that in a group of 20 pigs we see today, tomorrow 15 will be slaughtered. Life happens - It unfolds all around us at breackneck pace and we only have moments tucked away in secrecy to experience it through our own eyes. Cuaron directed this perfectly and painted a portrait of not only teenage life but life itself. Bravo.
