Young Frankenstein 1974

Really well directed - felt like a proper 1940s monster movie - until the very solid comedy bits pop in. Which I also had a really great time with.

I've thought a lot about what makes a movie star. What makes an icon - a silver screen legend who won't be forgotten after their time has gone.

I think a lot of actors these days churn out performances that feel very substitutable. The way they read their lines, perform certain gestures, etc. all feel like things that many other actors could do. Substitute one in for another.

Gene wilder does this exaggerared, exasperated yell of his lines that I honestly can't imagine anyone else doing. He brought himself to the role and had his tick, his calling card, that I honestly can't imagine another actor doing. Makes sense he's stood the test of time.
