Film review
Elvira Madigan (1967)
★★★★
How do you make a movie that has elements which remind me of the Lead actress from the umbrellas of Cherbourg (if not more beautiful), cinematography like come and see, classical music needle drops and scenery like that and not tell me about it
I mean classical music plus landscape and cinematography like that will lead to a good movie no matter what in my mind
The first 30 minutes of the movie were a dream - like the what if sequence at the end of la la land or the forest romance scene in come and see. It reminded me of that 5 minute sequence in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid when all is well and they’re gallivanting together
The characters, especially Elvira, didnt really have a depth to them - a mistake which I felt left me feeling distant from the intimacy and emotional connection of this love affair
Overall though the love was cute and childish. I loved the feel of the movie and want to live in a world like those first 30 minutes
But what was with the audio sounding like it was recorded in a boot
Also the actress really looks like an older version of the girl from bridge to Terabithia
